HOW DID PEOPLE DEAL WITH THE DISEASE?

Some people believed that the disease was a punishment from God, for the worst people, but this possibility was extinguished when Europe lost 3 arch-bishops. The Death found it's way to France, Spain and even Norway! Spain lost their king too; king Alfon XI of Castile. Others believed the black death was from poisonous gasses released from the core of the earth from earthquakes. Many also blamed the Jews for the black death, as they were a target of prosecution during the middle ages, some towns however, protected their Jews from raging prosecutors. Some thought that if they burned vapors or scents around their homes would keep the gasses away and cleanse the air, some popular scents included juniper, pine, laurel, beech, lemon, rosemary and camphor. some dipped a handkerchief in some of the scents and held it over their nose and mouth. Many believed it was caused by 'witches'. some even went to these 'witches' for cures or prevention methods, some of these methods were to drink a cup of elderberry juice every day and wear a pure jade necklace.

Why Did The Black Death Break Out When It Did?

 And Where Did It Spread?

File:Xenopsylla chepsis (oriental rat flea).jpg They fleas would come from rats that would make nests in the roofs and the corners of  the homes in the middle ages. it started out in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia, it spread to east china, after that to south India and west towards the middle east and medditerrainian, the plague started on oriental flea which bit into rats, traveled with trades on ships etc. etc. then the rats huddles into houses all around europe, the flee jumed off the rats and on to people, biting them in the spots i told you about before, then they would jump to others.  so the main reason the black death broke out when it did was because people didn't really have a concept of personal hygiene, weren't aware of the importance of it, or even could afford to apply it

the black death's first break out was from 1346-1351 and took up to 200 million people! to the left is an image of the plague spreading over the four years over Europe. it shows the death in places over the place.

the black death was transmitted by flea bite  in areas such as the arm pits, groin, lymph glands and neck, they would enlarge and  swell. These bites were known as buboes, these buboes could grow as big as apples! they would bleed under the skin and red blotches appear, the blotches would turn black, and shortly after the victim would die.
